School Show 2025 - Oliver

With the grime of the city on their collars and a cockney song in their hearts, the cast of Dalziel High School’s “Oliver!” welcomed audiences to “consider themselves at home” across four sold out performances.

Featuring music, lyrics and a book by Lionel Bart, the 1960 musical stepped inside the pages of Charles Dickens’ dark tale, leaving pupils from Knowetop, Glencairn and Ladywell begging for mooooore as part of their transition into our school community.

A Lambeth Walk through the chapters of the 1838 novel, the comic musical follows the rags to riches tale of Oliver Twist, a young workhouse orphan who finds himself in the clutches of Fagin and his gang of young thieves. With Bill Sykes snarling in the shadows and Nancy giving it the old “Oom Pah Pah”, the show builds to an unexpected twist (or “Twist”) that sees Oliver’s little life change forever.

Mrs Kelly and Mrs MacKenzie have been working with their gang of children since they began reviewing the situation in March, and we are incredibly proud of what our hardworking staff and pupils have achieved through months of toil in the workhouse and rehearsal room.

Nearly 100 of our Dalzielian's were “part of the family”, taking responsibility for sound, stage management, lighting, props and costume, ensuring that audiences enjoyed “A Fine Life” in a night of song, dance and laughter. Like so much of life at Dalziel High School, this show dances along with our school values and remind us of all we can accomplish when we aim to respect, include and achieve.
