October 2010 Newsletter

Dear Parent/Guardian

As we start the 2nd term, fresh from our October break, the latest news/events associated with the School are as follows:-

  1. Staffing
I’m delighted to inform you that Mrs Linda Begg (Principal Teacher of Drama) has now returned - albeit in a limited way over the next few weeks - after her injury. We have had to make a little alteration to the S1 Drama timetable to compensate during Mrs Begg’s phased return but this should then correct itself from the beginning of December when things return to normal.

  2. S5/6 Hallowe’en Party
The S5/6 Hallowe’en Party will be held, in the School, on Monday 25 October at 7.30 pm.
Tickets, price £5.00, are now on sale from the School Officials.

  3. War Memorial Trust
The next meeting of the War Memorial Trust will be held, in the School, on Monday 1 November at 7.00 pm.

  4. Fashion Show
Due to popular demand, the pupils have resurrected Dalziel’s own Fashion Show.
This should be a great event, sponsored by major retail outlets, with the sponsors to date being Sainsbury’s, Burton’s, Internationale and Dorothy Perkins. The Young Enterprise Team who are organising the event are selling tickets in the Social Area at break time at a price of £2.00. At the event there will also be a “Taste the Difference” Food stall held by Sainsbury’s and a Fair Trade stall. The Fashion Show is to be held at Dalziel High School on Monday 1 November from 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm and I hope that many of you will come along to support the event and enjoy the evening with a difference.

  5. Parent Council Meeting
The next meeting of the Parent Council will be held, in the School, on Thursday 4 November at 7.00 pm.

  6. Parents' Association Meeting
The next meeting of the Parents’ Association will be held, in the School, on Monday 8 November at 7.30 pm.

  7. Inter-House Public Speaking Competition
The Inter-House Public Speaking Competition will be held, in the School, on Tuesday 9 November at 7.00 pm.
This is always a very popular event and very entertaining. Entry is free and I hope that many of you will come along and hear the pupils perform and enjoy the evening.

  8. Remembrance Service
The Remembrance Service will be held, in the School, on Sunday 14 November at 2.00 pm.
I would invite all parents, pupils, staff, former pupils and friends to come along on this day and remember those that gave their lives so that we could enjoy ours today.
We should never forget the debt owed to them.

  9. In-Service Day
This is a reminder that there is another In-Service Day on Monday 15 November.
School will be closed to pupils on that day and normal timetable will resume, at 8.55 am, on Tuesday 16 November.

  10. Yours faithfully

    Brian Miller
