November 2021 Newsletter

Dear Parent / Carer,

  1. School Uniform
We are delighted to be in a position to safely re-open our PE changing rooms and include other areas to all pupils from Tuesday 16 November. In accordance with Education Scotland and NLC guidelines this can, indeed, be the case again. Many schools (NLC and other local authorities) have already done so, without any apparent increased risk of COVID19 transmission, and therefore, we are very much looking forward to all our young people reporting to school each day again in their high standard of dress in relation to our school uniform policy: -

    • Dalziel High School blazer (always worn in transition around the building/school grounds)
    • Black (formal) school shoes
    • Black formal school trousers, or a black/tartan skirt
    • White formal school shirt/blouse
    • Dalziel High School tie (appropriate to year group)

Denim, leather, hooded tops, or similar garments of clothing are not part of our school uniform policy.

The Senior Leadership Team will be highly active over the coming weeks in encouraging and congratulating our young people regarding their uniform standards. Thank you in advance for your support in this matter. If you need help with supplying your child with any part of the school uniform, please contact the school for assistance. I am sure that if pupils, parents/carers and staff continue to work together, we can look forward to sustaining our excellent uniform standard.

  2. Parents' Association Update
The next online meeting will be on Monday 8 November at 7.30 pm, and Mr Gallacher, PT Future Fridays, and Mr Ward, our Digital Champion, will join the meeting to update parents on their roles.

The Parents’ Association are looking for your support to raise funds for the school by taking part in the ‘100 Club’ to help raise money for the school this session.

The 100 Club is a private lottery for any members of the Parents’ Association, this means any parent, (including all relatives of pupils at the school), teachers and non-teaching staff can also join. Members must be 16 years or older. Each number costs £2 per month. You could have more than one number each month, the more numbers that are sold the bigger the prizes and the greater the chance of winning! Numbers are allocated on a first come, first served basis prior to the draw. If you are interested in supporting the Parents’ Association raise funds for the school, an application form and more information can be found on the school website.

  3. S4 Prelim Exams
S4 pupils have received their Prelim examination timetable and a letter outlining arrangements. The exams take place between Monday 22 November and Friday 3 December.

  4. Children in Need
In order to support Children in Need as a school, we plan to raise funds through a Dress Down Day on Friday 19 November. Each pupil/member of staff will be asked to make a voluntary donation of £1, or an amount of their choice, as they enter the school. Many thanks for your support with this.

  5. Remembrance Service
Our annual Act of Remembrance will be held in St Mary’s Church, with a small number of staff and pupils represented, on Thursday 11 November. The service will be live-streamed to the school for everyone to take part.

  6. Inter-House Public Speaking Competition
The school’s Annual Inter-House Public Speaking Competition will take place in the Assembly Hall on Tuesday 9 November attended, this year, by participants and House Officials.

  7. School Communication
Thank you to those of you who took the time to fill in our Communications Survey. The feedback has been extremely positive on our current methods of communication in general. School staff will respond to individual enquires over the coming weeks. Our school’s website and Twitter account are our main mediums of sharing up to-date information on events and achievements at the school, including our calendar for this session. If you do not have a personal Twitter account, you can still access the school’s Twitter feed via the Parent’s Portal under ‘Your Services’ and then ‘School’ tab.
