October 2021 Newsletter

Dear Parent / Carer,

  1. Future Friday's
Congratulations to Mr Gallacher on his promotion to Principal Teacher of Future Fridays. The programme has continued to grow and develop, with lots of clubs that are accessible to all pupils. If you would like any more information on any of our clubs, please get in touch with Mr Gallacher in the Social Subjects Department.

  2. School Uniform
You will be aware that uniform is an important part of our school’s identity. It is also widely recognised as being a ‘leveller’ in terms of poverty proofing the school day. I am confident that our high standard of uniform has contributed to improving our excellent school ethos even further over the years. I am delighted to say that from the start of this session, the standard of our school uniform continues, for the most part, to be very good. All of our young people are expected to wear the full school uniform, which consists of:-

    • Dalziel High School blazer with school tie
    • Black trousers, black skirt or tartan skirt
    • Black pullover or black cardigan
    • Black shoes

If you need help with supplying your child with any part of the school uniform, please contact the school for assistance. I am sure that if pupils, parents/carers and staff continue to work together, we can look forward to sustaining our excellent uniform standard.

  3. Parents' Association Update
The Parents’ Association kindly donated £1,700 to our School Fund to help support our quest to poverty proof the school day. A massive thanks from the school staff and our young people to the Parents’ Association for their donation.

The first virtual Parents’ Association meeting was held on Monday 13 September and was very well attended. Thanks to Kirsty Houston, PT Art and Design, for her informative presentation on Virtual Parents’ Evenings. The next online meeting will be on Monday 8 November at 7.30 pm and Mr Gallacher, PT Future Fridays, will join us for an update.

The Parents’ Association are launching a 100 Club to help raise money for the school this session. The 100 Club is a private lottery for any members of the Parents’ Association. This means any parent, (including all relatives of pupils at the school), teachers and non-teaching staff can join. Members must be 16 years or older. Each number costs £2 per month. So, for the rest of the school year, it would cost £18. You could have more than one number each month. The more numbers that are sold the bigger the prizes and the greater the chance of winning! Numbers are allocated on a first come, first served basis prior to the draw. If you are interested in supporting the Parents’ Association in raising funds for the school, an application form and more information can be found on the school website.

  4. Photographs
For pupils who missed having their school photograph taken recently, there will be an opportunity to have them taken on Tuesday 19th October (am).

Pupils who have already had their photographs taken and want to buy them, must hand in the money to the school by Thursday 7th October, this is the last day for payment.

  5. Remembrance Service
Our annual Remembrance Service will be held in the school on Thursday 11 November. More information will be provided nearer the time.

  6. Inter-House Public Speaking Competition
The School’s Annual Inter-House Public Speaking Competition will take place in the Assembly Hall on Tuesday 9 November, attended, this year, by participants and House Officials.

  7. S1 Settling in Presentation
The S1 Settling In presentation will take place on Thursday 28 October at 7.00 pm. A link will be posted on the school website and emailed to S1 parents nearer the time.

  8. School Communication
Thank you to those of you who took the time to fill in our Communications Survey. I will update you on the findings in the November Newsletter. Our school’s website and Twitter account are our main mediums of sharing up-to-date information on events and achievements at the school, including our calendar for this session. If you do not have a personal Twitter account, you can still access the school’s Twitter feed via the Parent’s Portal under ‘Your Services’ and then ‘School’ tab.

Finally, we always welcome feedback on any other aspect of the school. You can share your views with us via e-mail or, indeed, by any means of communication that suits you.

I hope that you and your family enjoy the forthcoming October break.
