December 2020 Newsletter

Dear Parent/Carer,

  1. S4 Progress Assessment Checks
S4 pupils have been sitting their Progress Assessment Checks over the last two weeks. They are due to be completed this Friday and results will be issued to pupils in due course.

S5/6 pupils will be starting their Prelim Exams on Monday 11 January 2021 and have been issued with their exam timetables.

  2. Inter-House Public Speaking Competition Results
The school’s annual Public Speaking Competition took place on Friday 27 November with top place going to Colville House and Sophie Cochran, S4, judged the best individual performer.

  3. Staffing
After many years outstanding service to the school, Basie Grieve (40 years) and Amanda Mori (32 years) will be retiring at Christmas.

They have both made an outstanding contribution to our school and have encouraged and supported so many pupils at Dalziel.

Clerical Assistant, Frances Caullay, will also be retiring on 18 December after more than 17 years in the Dalziel School Office.

We wish each of them well for a long and happy retirement.

Louise MacMorris, Modern Languages Department, is also wished good luck as she takes up a new post at Balwearie High School in the new year.

  4. Children in Need
In order to support Children In Need as a school, we had a dress down day on Friday 13 November. Each pupil and member of staff was asked to make a voluntary donation of £1, or an amount of their choice, as they entered the school and this raised over £800. Many thanks for your support with this.

  5. Christmas Jumper Day
As you may be aware, Friday 11 December is National Christmas Jumper Day. At the request of the Pupil Council, we encourage pupils to wear Christmas Jumpers on this day, along with their school uniforms. We would like to stress that this is not compulsory, but a pupil’s own choice. We will also have collection buckets at the doors in the morning to support ‘Save the Children’, however, once again, this is a voluntary donation and not compulsory.

  6. Digital Celebration of Christmas
The Music Department is currently preparing a digital musical celebration of Christmas to be shared with pupils, staff and parents. Further information will be issued on the school’s social media sites nearer the time.

  7. School Uniform
We are always happy to receive donations of blazers, ties etc that are no longer needed – especially for girls. Any items of uniform no longer needed can be handed in to the School Office.
