September 2020 Newsletter

Dear Parent/Guardian,
Can I thank all parents/carers for your continued support with our dress code. Our pupils are coming to school properly dressed and looking very smart. If anyone has old blazers that are no longer needed we would be happy to put them to good use and they can be handed in to the School Office.

  1. S1 Pupils
I am delighted with how well our new S1 pupils have settled into life at Dalziel. Should you have any concerns you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s Pupil Support Tutor. Settling-in reports will be issued on Monday 5 October.

  2. Pupil Absences/Appointments
If your child is going to be absent from school, we would ask that parents/carers please let us know as far in advance as possible. On return, pupils must hand in a note to the School Office for their Pupil Support Tutor.

Any pupil with a dental or medical appointment must hand in a card or letter prior to attending these appointments.

  3. Senior Officials
Pupils and staff of the school have been voting for the House Officials who will serve alongside School Captain, Callum Sergeant and Vice-Captain Michael Bolat.

  4. Pupil Safety
Can I please remind all parents to take extra care while driving and parking near the school. With the large number of cars around the school each day we are concerned for the safety of our pupils. Please take extra care.

Pupils are also reminded about road safety when crossing the roads, especially at lunchtimes when using the van on Crawford Street.

We have received several complaints from the general public regarding pupils leaving litter in the Duchess Park at lunchtimes. Whilst we regularly speak to pupils about conduct and littering, we ask that parents reinforce this at home.

  5. Face Coverings
All pupils must remember to bring a face covering each day. Also, if in the community and on public transport, pupils must remember to wear a mask.

The school is now selling tartan face masks at the School Tuck Shop at a cost of £5.00.

  6. Staff Retiral
Mrs Margaret Kerr from our School Office will be retiring this month after 16 years’ service and we wish her a very happy and healthy retirement.

  7. Refurbishment of Science Labs
The refurbishment of the Science Labs are nearing completion and we hope to have them all in operation by the end of next week.

  8. S5/6 Positive Destination Evening
The S5/6 Positive Destination Evening will take place on Wednesday 23 September at 7.00 pm via Microsoft Teams. Further information will be issued to pupils by Miss Kinstrie on Thursday 17 September.

  9. School Timetable Update
Both staff and pupils have adjusted well to the new two week timetable and this has contributed significantly in creating a safer environment within the school. We have decided to adapt the timetable on a Thursday afternoon in order to create a more balanced timetable for some pupils. From Monday 21 September pupils will follow the two week schematic below.

These changes will be explained fully to all pupils within school and a new individual timetable will be issued on Monday morning.

Arrival and Departure Times - All pupils will continue to assemble in the playground. As classes are brought into the building, pupils will continue to be asked to sanitise their hands as they enter.
