March 2018 Newsletter

Dear Parent/Guardian,

  1. Health Fayre
This year Dalziel celebrated its 24th annual Health Fayre under the theme ‘Finding the Balance’.

Every class in S1-S3 and all P7 pupils from our associated primaries visited the Health Fayre. Each group visited five main stalls and experienced First Aid training, Apps on Mindfulness in our ‘Calm Area’, solved brain puzzles and received information on healthy eating. As always, pupils competed in our sport events in House groups.

At lunchtime every day, sporting events such as Beach Volleyball, Futsal and our very own ‘Bring It On’ dance competition took place. We held an Anthony Nolan registration day and as usual, the opportunity was in place to donate blood. Once again, our primary 7 pupils took part in a competition to design our programme front cover and also attended our annual Sports Hall event.

Many thanks go to all staff, exhibitors and pupils involved in this year’s event and we hope our Health Fayre encouraged our pupils and staff to look at their life balance.

Congratulations to all on a very successful week.

  2. SQA Exams
The SQA exams for Dalziel High school pupils begin on Monday 30 April. All pupils involved in the exams will receive an exam timetable and information from SQA during assemblies. Pupils with special arrangements will receive an alternative timetable.

  3. Spring Concert
The Spring Concert, presented by the pupils of the Music Department, will be held on Tuesday 27 March in the Gymnasium starting at 7.00 pm. Tickets, priced £2.00, are available from the Music Department with a small number of seats available on the night.

  4. Games Morning
The Games Morning will take place on Thursday 29 March. It will follow the same format as last year’s event and will take place between the school and Dalziel Park. Unfortunately, spectators will not be able to attend the event.

  5. Easter Service
The Easter Service will take place on Wednesday 28 March. The service will take place in the afternoon starting at 1.40 pm.

  6. Choral Shield
Barclay House are looking for a sponsor to support their costs for costumes etc for this year’s Choral Shield.

If you think you could help with this, please contact the school for more information.

  7. Celebrating Success

    Space School

One of our S5 pupils, Max Logan, has won a place on this year’s Scottish Space School which takes place in June at Strathclyde University. Max will be working on activities with astronauts and engineers from NASA.

    Rotary Engineering Competition

Dalziel recently entered three teams in the Basic Level (S1/S2) of the Rotary Engineering Competition at Kilsyth Academy and one of the teams finished first, designing and building a rocket launcher (well plastic golf ball launcher actually) from basic materials.

Well done to: Innes McClair, Evan Pattison, Rachel Reilly and Charlotte Simpson.

We also entered a team in the Intermediate level (S3/S4) competition and they finished close behind the winners in 2nd place.

All the teams were fantastic and had a great time.

DYW (Developing the Young Workforce) and STEM (& Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths)

Dalziel High School are looking for any parents/guardians who would like to be involved in our DYW & STEM Programmes that are extremely successful within the school. We are looking for parent representation on our committees. If you are interested please contact Margaret Craw (Physics Teacher) email address:
