Retiral of Mr Robert Birch - Head Teacher

Dear Parent/Carer, After ten years at the helm, Mr Robert Birch retires from the position of Rector of Dalziel High School at the end of this session.

His leadership and commitment to the whole school community during this time and as a former Depute Head and Principal Teacher in Dalziel High is to be commended.

As Rector, Mr Birch has led the school to great success over the last decade with national recognition of the achievements of the school, including a very good inspection as recognised by HMI. We are grateful for his significant contribution to Dalziel High over many years and the impact he has had on the lives of so many young people. I would like to thank Robert, on behalf of the Education and Families Service, for his years of service to North Lanarkshire Council. I know he will be hugely missed by the entire Dalziel community and take this opportunity to wish him a long, happy and healthy retirement.

Following a recruitment process, Ms Jaclyn Martin has been appointed as Acting Head Teacher of Dalziel High School and will take up this position in August. As you will be aware, Ms Martin is currently Depute Head Teacher in Dalziel High and I am sure you will wish to support her in her new acting role.

Recruitment for the substantive post will be undertaken in the new session.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the staff, young people, parents and carers and the entire Dalziel community a restful and relaxing summer.

Yours sincerely,

Janie O’Neill
Head of Education (Central)
