The shoebox appeal is organised by a charity called Blytheswood Care, and this year is their 25th year.
They send out thousands of shoeboxes to deprived counties in Europe, including Albania, Bulgaria,Hungary,Kosova, Moldova, Romania, Serbia and Ukraine.
The shoeboxes contain items to give to people who have so little and this can make all the difference once a year. Things we take for granted are a luxury to them.
If you cannot fill a shoebox then any donations of the essential items (toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, small toys, sweets, hats, scarves, socks, etc - all unused) can be handed in to Mrs Whitelaw in the Technical Department.
Last year Dalziel collected 114 boxes and it would be good to donate more than last year.
The appeal has been extended for another week but the boxes are slowly comng in. The latest count is:
- Barclay - 30
- Colville - 26
- Greig - 21
