On Friday 3rd it was the turn for the Girls to attend the SVA Volleyball Festival at Ravenscraig this event following on from the Boys the previous week.
With another large turnout of teams the Festival was a great success with loads of experience gained. As always there was a vast range of ability with age group internationalists and volleyball players mixing with the relative ‘rabbit’ and social player.
Dalziel’s squad was very much made up of the latter type and it was a steep learning curve for the girls. Games were played and games were lost in the morning session when teams are just picked randomly without regard to ability. In the afternoon, teams are ceded and so the Dalziel sides found themselves together in the 3rd group. This of course meant that aside from other matches, there would be a Dalziel ‘clash’, this game the last to be played between the two teams. Before that the ‘A’ team were delighted to record a win while the ‘B’ team were happy to draw one of their matches….and so to the main match, A v B!
In a tense 20 minute match it was Dalziel A who eventually triumphed but there were no recriminations and the girls were happy to have been part of an enjoyable but tiring day.
Not that that prevented them from going back to Dalziel and resuming the match for another hour! To end the event there were prizes dished out Dalziel’s Kimberley Dougal selected for her overall positivity throughout the day and for telling the organisers the best jokes.
