- The Dalzielian
Our yearbook, The Dalzielian, is on sale now. Priced at £12, this is subsidised to keep the costs down. This is a great memento documenting the last twelve months in the school. Make sure you get your copy.
- The Choral Shield
Choral Shield rehearsals are now well underway and we look forward to great shows on Monday 22 and Tuesday 23 June. Tickets are on sale from the School Office and an order form has been issued to each pupil along with this newsletter.
- Science & Technology Fayre
The Science and Technology Fayre took place on Friday 5 June and was a great success. Our thanks go to the growing list of sponsors who support this excellent event.
- Education Maintenance Allowance
Application forms for any pupils, over the age of 16, wishing to apply for the above allowance are now available from the School Office.
- Free School Meals & Clothing Grants
Any parents/guardians wishing to apply for free school meals or clothing grants can download an application form from Here or collect a form from the School Office.
Any parents/guardians who applied last year should have either been sent a letter advising them of their entitlement and automatic award or an application form for completion.
Applications relating to the new term will be accepted by First Stop Shops from the first week in May. Early submissions are encouraged to ensure clothing grants are made and free school meals are registered for the start of the new session.
Could I take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support in ensuring your child wears the full school uniform each day. As a reminder before you buy next session’s uniform, this consists of:-
- White Shirt
- Black/Dark Grey Trousers or skirt or Dalziel Tartan skirt
- Plain Black/Dark Grey jumper or cardigan
- School Tie
- Black Shoes (not trainers/converse shoes)
- No Hooded Tops
- Trousers should in no way resemble jeans or leggings.
- Dalziel Day Out
This year over 400 pupils will participate in our school day out on Friday 19 June. This year’s venues include Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Go-karting, Golf and Horse-riding. Pupils will be notified at assemblies of arrangements for the event.
Mrs Jean Moore, Computing Department and Mrs Dorothy Coyle, Art Department, will both retire in June after many years outstanding service to the school. We wish them both a long and happy retirement.
Mrs Pauline Allison has been promoted to the post of Head Teacher at Deans Community High School. Pauline has made a great contribution to Dalziel High School and leaves with our very best wishes.
Also, Mrs Margaret-Ann Docherty has been promoted to Depute Head Teacher at St Maurice’s High School and we thank her for all she has done for the school and wish her well in her new role.
All S3 pupils have been offered the chance to take part in a unique and exciting opportunity, available only to pupils of Dalziel High School. In S4, all pupils participate in a Work Experience placement every Wednesday afternoon. As a result of a growing partnership between the school and New College Lanarkshire (Motherwell campus) 48 pupils will have the opportunity to attend college every Wednesday afternoon as an alternative to a Work Experience placement. On offer are National 4 Engineering, National 5 Construction and National 4/5 Childcare. AMEC, one of the world’s leading engineering, project management and consultancy companies, will continue to provide support, including providing onsite visits and advice within schools.
- School Show
Rehearsals for this year’s School Show, “Little Shop of Horrors”, are well underway. In keeping with the tradition of previous years, our School Show pupils will perform a selection of songs from the show at this year’s Choral Shield.
- Celebrating Success
We are very pleased to highlight the sporting successes of two of our pupils.
At the end of April, S1 pupil, Billy Rodman won a Gold medal in the Northern Ireland Judo Championships and, at the end of May, S3 pupil, Oliver Park, as a member of the Judo Scotland squad, also won a Gold medal in the International Judo Championships held in Holland.
Very well done and congratulations go to both the boys on their marvellous achievements.
