February 2015 Newsletter

Dear Parent/Guardian

  1. Burns Supper
Congratulations to all those who took part in the recent Burns Supper. It was a fantastic evening with great entertainment.

  2. Staffing
Our school Janitor, Mr John McDevitt, will be retiring in February. We wish him well after many years of outstanding service to our school.

Our best wishes go to Miss Polly Campbell, PE Department, who has been promoted to Principal Teacher of Pupil Support at Bannockburn High School.

  3. Careers Convention
On Thursday 19 February we will be holding our second Careers Convention, which is designed to help your child with their personalisation and choice process.

The event will be open from 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm and will involve a variety of exhibitors from various different positive destinations. We have had confirmation from most of the universities in Scotland, the local colleges, several training providers and several companies such as AMEC Foster Wheeler (Engineering), the Law Society, Barclays, Scottish Power, NHS and Dalziel Services.

This event was very successful last year and we know that it will provide your child with a range of information, which will help them to find out more about careers that interest them.

The event is open to pupils from all year groups and we would also like to extend the invitation to parents. This will allow you to gather information, which will allow you to assist your child with career decisions that they may be making. Please encourage your child to attend this event and we hope to see you also on the 19 of February.

Please see the school website for a full list of exhibitors.

  4. Health Fayre
Plans are underway for our annual Health Fayre. This year we celebrate the Fayre’s 21st birthday and pupils and staff will be encouraged to participate in numerous activities and sample healthy snacks. A number of lunchtime events for staff and pupils have also been arranged throughout the week, including the Staff v Pupils Rowing Challenge. The Health Fayre takes place in the Assembly Hall from Monday 2 March to Friday 6 March.

  5. S2 Subject Choices
All S2 pupils are currently involved in the Personalisation and Choice process for choosing their S3 subjects. So far, this has been discussed with them at Assemblies and the following gives an indication of other aspects to this, along with key dates:

Come along for a great night out as ‘Them Beatles’ perform the classic songs, with attention to detail in the authenticity of the arrangements, equipment, on-stage presence, clothing and audience interactions. Music is played live without the use of pre-recorded backing tracks, recreating authentic and genuine tones and harmonies from the live Beatles shows.
