March 2014 Newsletter

Dear Parent/Guardian

  1. Spring Concert
The Spring Concert, presented by the pupils of the Music Department, will be held on Tuesday 1 April in the Assembly Hall starting at 7.00 pm. Tickets will soon be available from the Music Department with a small number of seats available on the night.

  2. Health Fayre
The Commonwealth Games was the theme for Dalziel High's Annual Health Fayre of 2014. The idea was that it's all very well watching top class performers and marvelling at their talents and abilities but we owe it to ourselves to lead an active lifestyle and to maximise our own health.

The Assembly Hall was, once again, transformed by Group members, Ann Walker and Catrina Allan, with bunting provided by the local feeder primaries contributing to the decoration.

Prizewinner of the front cover of the Health Fayre programme was Hannah Kane of Glencairn Primary and she was presented with a Waterstones' voucher.

As always, the school is indebted to those organisations who provided exhibits and/or staff to man the stalls, each of which supplied a wealth of information on issues such as dental health care, First Aid, healthy food and drink options, nail and hair care (provided by Motherwell College), and health and fitness testing. Once again, the Health Fayre was a very successful event and much enjoyed by all who attended.

  3. SQA Exams
The SQA exams begin on Tuesday 29 April. All pupils involved in these exams will receive timetables, information from SQA and a letter for parents giving details of study leave etc, during assemblies in the next couple of weeks. Dates of study leave are as follows:-
    • S4 - The day of each exam a pupil sits and the day before.
    • S5/6 - Monday 28 April returning to school on Thursday 5 June.
In the meantime, all pupils who will be sitting exams, should be continuing to study hard.

  4. Celebrating Success
Many congratulations and well done go to S5 pupils, Alison McNeill, Chloe Murphy and James Swinburne, who have all been selected to attend the Scottish Space School 2014.

S2 pupil, Morgan Joyce is also to be congratulated on winning a Scottish Engineering Special Leaders Award at secondary level for her illustration. Having her design selected from over 3,000 entries is an amazing achievement.
