January 2014 Newsletter

Dear Parent/Guardian

Best wishes to all our pupils, staff and parents for 2014. My thanks to everyone who supported our Christmas celebrations, the Christmas Dances and Church Service.

  1. Parents’ Association Christmas Raffle
Thank you for your support with the Christmas Raffle which raised £984. The money will be spent to benefit our pupils. Prizewinners’ names are listed on our website.

Many thanks to all the local businesses who donated prizes.

  2. SQA Examination Prelims
The S5/6 Prelims will take place from Monday 27 January to Friday 7 February inclusive. Pupils will return to their normal timetable on Thursday 13 February. Some S4 pupils will also sit Prelims at this time, although this applies only to those working on Intermediate courses. Details of the Prelim diet and study leave will have been issued to pupils by the end of this week. Please ensure you read the information letter issued to your child.

  3. Burns Supper
The Burns Supper takes place on Monday 20 January. All S5/6 pupils and staff are warmly welcomed to an excellent evening of Burns’ poetry and musical recitals celebrating the life and work of the great Bard. The evening kicks off at 6.30 pm in the Social Area and tickets are priced at £8.00, which includes a three course supper.

  4. Mobile Phones
A reminder that mobile phones are banned in school. If pupils are in possession of a mobile phone and seen by a member of staff, the mobile phone will be confiscated and a punishment exercise will be issued. Thank you for your continued support.

  5. Mock Interviews
Our annual timetable of Mock Interviews will take place from Tuesday 21 January to Friday 24 January for S4 pupils. Many thanks to the volunteers from the local community and beyond who participate in this in order to help pupils build skills for use in the wider education and employment community.

  6. Change to the School Day/Week
As of August 2014 the school hours will change with the introduction of a 33 period week.

The proposed model for our school was issued to all parents recently and is on our website at www.dalzielhigh.org.uk

  7. Celebrating Success
Congratulations go to Oliver Park, S2, who having become Scottish Judo Champion 2013 a few weeks ago, also won the title of British Judo Champion on Sunday 8 December in Sheffield. Oliver retains both these titles from 2012. Well done Oliver.
