January 2013 Newsletter

Dear Parent/Guardian

Best wishes to all our pupils, staff and parents for 2013. My thanks to everyone who supported our Christmas celebrations, the Christmas Dances and Church Service.

  1. Parents' Association Christmas Raffle
Thank you for your support with the Christmas Raffle which raised £1208.70. The money will be spent to benefit our pupils. Prizewinners’ names are listed on our website.

  2. SQA Examination Prelims
The S5/6 Prelims take place from Monday 28 January until Thursday 7 February. Some S4 pupils will also sit Prelims at this time, although this applies only to those working on Intermediate courses.

Details of the Prelim diet and study leave will be issued to pupils this week.

  3. S3 Report Cards
S3 Report Cards are due to be issued on Wednesday 30 January.

  4. S2 Parents' Evening
The S2 Parents’ Evening takes place on Tuesday 29 January.

  5. Easter School
North Lanarkshire Council are running an Easter School for S5 and S6 pupils who would like an opportunity for revision and supported study. The Easter School will take place in Motherwell College from Tuesday 2 April - Friday 5 April. This is an ideal chance for pupils to revise key concepts and topics in examination subjects under supervised conditions. More details will be available in the upcoming weeks.

  6. The Galleon
Many past Dalzielians may be interested to know that the painting of The Galleon by E A Taylor has been restored and returned to our Assembly Hall. This painting was originally paid for by pupils and parents as part of the War Memorial after World War I.

  7. Burns Supper
The Burns Supper takes place on Monday 21 January. All S5/6 pupils and staff are warmly welcomed to an excellent evening of Burn’s poetry and musical recitals celebrating the life and work of the great Bard. The evening kicks off at 6.30 pm in the Social Area and tickets are priced at £8.00, which includes a three course supper.

  8. Mobile Phones
A reminder that mobile phones are banned in school. If pupils are in possession of a mobile phone and seen by a member of staff, the mobile phone will be confiscated and a punishment exercise will be issued. Thank you for your continued support.
