June 2012 Newsletter

Dear Parent/Guardian

  1. The Choral Shield
Choral Shield rehearsals are now well underway and we look forward to great shows on Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 June. Tickets are on sale from the School Office and an order form will be issued to each pupil.

  2. The Dalzielian
Our yearbook, The Dalzielian, will soon be on sale. Priced at £12, this is subsidised to keep the costs down. This is a great memento documenting the last twelve months in the school. Make sure you get your copy in June.

  3. PTA Quiz Night
Our PTA are organising their Annual Quiz Night on Monday 11 June. This is always a friendly, informal and fun night with all proceeds being spent on the pupils. Please come along and support the school.

  4. The Science & Technology Fayre
The Science and Technology Fayre will take place on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 June. Our thanks go to the growing list of sponsors who support this excellent event.

  5. Celebrating Success
Congratulations go to Michelle Boyle on being selected to represent Great Britain at the 2012 Judo Cadet European Championships. Michelle will travel to Montenegro at the end of June to compete and we wish her every success.

Good luck goes to Deborah Kerr, Rhiannon Caldwell and James Swinburne, who are members of the SCA Development Squad in Sprint Canoeing. They will be competing in the four National Regattas taking place in Nottingham this month, where athletes can be selected for the Junior GB Team.

Congratulations also go to Roslyn Jessney, Megan McNeil, Ross Mitchell and Aiden McKinney, who achieved 3rd place in the national finals of the Weir Engineering Excellence Competition on Wednesday 30 May. The pupils had to give a 30-40 minute presentation on the future of Scottish engineering followed by an intense question and answer session.

Jim McHarg, of the Weir Group, congratulated the pupils by stating “that this was one of the most ambitious engineering school projects he had ever seen”.

  6. Free School Meals and Clothing Grants
Application forms are now available from the School Office or can be downloaded from www.northlanarkshire.org.uk/freeschoolmeals.

Applications will be accepted by First Stop Shops from the first week in May and early submission is advised to ensure clothing grants are made and free school meals are registered for the start of the new session.

Parents who applied last year should either have been sent a letter advising them of their entitlement and automatic award or an application form for completion.

If you require further information, please contact Irene Smith, Learning & Leisure Services, Kildonan Street, Coatbridge on 01236 812263 or by email via This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

  7. Education Maintenance Allowance
