December 2011 Newsletter

Dear Parent/Guardian,

May I take this opportunity to wish a happy festive season to you and your family.

  1. Christmas Dances
We will be celebrating with our usual Christmas Dances. Can I remind you that these dances are more formal than school discos and we do ask our pupils to dress smartly (no jeans, no trainers). The dates for each dance are listed below:

    • S1 Monday 12 December - 7.0pm to 10.00pm
    • S2 Tuesday 13 December – 7.00 pm to 10.15 pm
    • S3 Wednesday 14 December – 7.00 pm to 10.30 pm
    • S4 Thursday 15 December – 7.00 pm to 10.45 pm
    • S5/6 Monday 19 December – 6.00 pm to 11.00 pm

  2. Parents’ Association Christmas Raffle
The raffle tickets for our Annual Raffle have been issued to pupils and we ask you to support this. The Parents’ Association use this money to support our pupils and improve the facilities around the school. Last year, the Parents’ Association provided new benches in the playground and supported The Choral Shield. The pupils are encouraged to make suggestions through the Pupil Council on how any money raised is spent.

  3. Staffing
Mrs Angela Boyd has been appointed PT of Modern Languages at St Ambrose High School and will leave us in January. We hope to appoint a replacement very soon.
Mrs Laura Carrick, History/Modern Studies Teacher, has gone on maternity leave and has been replaced by Mr James Callaghan.

  4. SQA Examination Prelims
The date of the S5/S6 Prelims is Monday 30 January – Wednesday 8 February.

  5. Parent Council / Parents' Association
We are fortunate to have a very active Parent Council and Parents’ Association. The Parents’ Association is hoping to recruit new members so please come along and find out more about our school and how you can help provide the best opportunities for our pupils. Details of all meetings, dates and times are on the Community Section of our website www.dalzielhigh.org.uk.

  6. S5/6 Reports
Please ensure that you have received your child’s report card. Acknowledgement slips are due to be returned to Mr Fleming with any comments/concerns.

  7. UCAS
A reminder that the deadline for UCAS applications is Friday 9 December. Any issues or questions regarding UCAS should be directed to Mr Fleming or Miss Owens.

  8. Celebrating Success
Convener’s Awards – The school has always had great academic success in the SQA exam diet and this year is no exception. We would like to make particular mention of Euan Cameron, Ross Hannah, Emily Gallen and Ross Sheldon, who achieved 8 ‘1’s at Standard Grade and Alexander Anderson, Emily Brown, Gwen Morris, Amy Rodgers and Zoe Macqueen, who all achieved 5 ‘A’s at Higher level. This is a fantastic achievement and we are all very proud of them.
