May 2011 Newsletter

Dear Parent/Guardian

Many of our pupils are now sitting SQA examinations. We wish them all every success. All the examination arrangements and information has been issued but please contact the school if we can help in any way.

  1. Staffing
Mrs J O’Neill has taken up her new post as Head Teacher of Coatbridge High School and we wish her every success.

Mrs E Kelly will be taking early retirement in August after nearly 20 years at Dalziel. She has made a fantastic contribution to the school and will be a great loss.

Mrs R Bayliss, Mr D Hay, Mrs S Kilgariff and Mr B Butler are all retiring in August and we wish them a very happy retirement.

  2. School Survey
Our school Survey is now complete and the results are available on our website at www.dalzielhigh.org.uk

  3. Choral Shield
The Choral Shield will again take place at the SECC Armadillo on Tuesday 21 June and Wednesday 22 June. Tickets are now on sale and are available for collection from the School Office.

Rehearsals for the Choral Shield begin on Monday 6 June. There will be a full cast meeting on Monday 6 June at 9.00 am in the Gymnasium with Mr Birch and Mr Fleming. It is important that all cast members attend other than the small group who have an exam that day.

  4. Sponsored Walk
We are planning a Sponsored Walk around Strathclyde Park on Friday 3 June for S1 and S2 pupils to raise funds for The War Memorial Trust which runs Dalziel Park. This provides an excellent facility to our young people and our community and we hope our pupils will support this.
We would appreciate help from parents for the sponsored walk and ask that you contact Jackie Donnachie in the Maths Department - This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. - if you are able to assist.

  5. Sponsorship of Choral Shield
Our school has always been very well supported by local companies sponsoring school events and we are very appreciative as the sponsorship enables us to offer more opportunities for our pupils. The Choral Shield is again being sponsored by Ian Johnstone and Reid Printers, and Greig House is again being sponsored by Hamilton Road Dental Practice.

We are now looking for new sponsors for Barclay House and Colville House. Please contact the school for more information if you would be interested in sponsoring these Houses.

  6. P7/S1 Transition
Our recent Games Evening for our new S1 was a great success with many pupils making new friends. The next transition event is the Parents’ Evening for the P7 pupils and their parents. This will be held in the school at 4.30 pm on Thursday 2 June.

  7. Pupil Achievement
Congratulations to Carla Jackson, S2, who has been ‘capped’ for Scotland as part of the Under-15 Girls’ Football Squad. Carla will take part in the International Children’s Games. Good Luck, Carla!
