September 2010 Newsletter

Dear Parent/Guardian

The latest news /events regarding the School are as follows:-

  1. Staffing

    • Mrs Pat Mitchell (Maths) has been a teacher in Dalziel for over 19 years. She has been a superb teacher, a superb asset to the School - in so many different ways - and a superb role model for younger teachers.
She has decided to retire at the October Break and, naturally, we are all going to miss her.
I'm sure that you will join with me in sending her every good wish for a long, happy and healthy retirement and, when she leaves, she also leaves with our grateful thanks for a job done outstandingly well.

    • Mrs Linda Begg (Principal Teacher of Drama)is slowly recuperating from her accident and, all being well, we look forward to seeing her ‘back in action’ - albeit in a limited way, at first - after the October break.

  2. School Show
I’m delighted to inform you that this year’s School Show - High School Musical - is a complete sell out.
This is great news for everyone associated with the Show and is a very fitting testimony to all the hard work, effort and commitment from everyone involved.
Ticket orders are now available for payment and collection and I look forward to seeing you at this year’s event.

  3. Holidays and In-Service Days
The School will be closed as follows:-

    • September Weekend - The School will close at 3.45 pm, for the September weekend, on Thursday 23 September and will re-open at 8.55 am on Tuesday 28 September.

    • October Break - The School will close for the October break at 2.30 pm on Friday 8 October. This is to allow a presentation to be made to Mrs Pat Mitchell so your son/daughter will be home a little earlier than usual on that day.

    • In-Service Day - There is an In-Service Day for staff on Monday 18 October so the School will be closed to pupils on that day.

    • Return - Normal timetables will resume for all pupils on Tuesday 19 October at 8.55 am.
  4. S3 Parents Evening
There will be a Parents’ Evening for parents/guardian of pupils in S3 on Thursday 21 October. Letters of appointment will be issued in the next week or so.

  5. Parent Council Elections
Further to my recent letter regarding the above, there being no additional nominations, the current Parent Council is re-elected for a further term of office.

I wish to record my grateful thanks to all of them for their unstinting support and encouragement. It is very re-assuring to know that the Parent Council are in full support of the type of School that we have and actively work to help maintain the standard of education provided to our pupils.

Yours faithfully
