  2. Customer Service Excellence Award
The school was visited by an inspector for the Customer Service Excellence Award on Thursday 23 November. Many thanks to all staff and pupils who participated. The full report will be published on the School Website as soon as it is released. We hope to maintain the already high standard of award set last year.

  3. Tracking and Monitoring
As you know, we have changed our Monitoring and Tracking procedures and all year groups now receive between 3 and 4 reports per year.

This is aimed at improving communication between school and home in order to continue to raise attainment.

Pupils in S4-S6 will engage in discussion with each of their class teachers, jointly set targets and discuss how to go about achieving these targets.

S4 Tracking Reports will be issued to parents on 25 January. This will include the current working grade based on Prelim results and class work and the target grades pupils should aim for. There will also be comments from each class teacher and Pupil Support tutors.

  4. S2 Careers Convention
Following the success of last year’s S2 Careers Convention, we are currently planning a similar event for late February. Part of the convention involves representatives from a variety of professions and industries holding short workshops for groups of pupils, where they give some insight into their job and answer any questions the pupils may have. We had a good representation from a variety of occupations last year and would be delighted to add to this. If you would be interested in leading a workshop to tell pupils about your career (what it involves, qualifications and/or training required) please contact Mrs Louise Kerr at the school on 01698 274900.

  5. Dragons' Lair
Three young entrepreneurs from Dalziel have won the NLC Dragons’ Lair competition, the final of which took place at Business Gateway in Coatbridge on Wednesday 15 Nov 2017.

The S3 team,‘We're C Cubed’, made up of Colin Gass, Callum Sergeant and Cameron Gunn, won over the Dragons with their design of a magnetic door lock that opens using a mobile phone and includes an inbuilt security feature of a fingerprint or face scanner.

The pupils were inspired by the fact that while we sometimes forget to take swipe cards and fobs when we go out, most people never leave home without our mobile phone.

Congratulations go to all three on a fantastic achievement.

  6. S2 Learning Morning
S2 pupils recently took part in a year-group event on learning skills. We looked at their perception of what makes someone successful; natural ability versus hard work and perseverance. We also discussed growth and fixed mindset along with how they respond when they don’t succeed straight away. This work will be followed through in Science and Health and Wellbeing classes.

  7. Unicef UK Rights Respecting School Award
This year, as part of Dalziel’s commitment to ensure wellbeing, equity and inclusion, we will be working with UNICEF UK to put children’s rights at the heart of our practice and ethos. The Rights Respecting Schools Award recognises achievement in putting the UN Convention on the Right of the Child (UNCRC or CRC) into practice and helps all children and young people realise their potential. We have started out on our journey to becoming a Rights Respecting School by hosting assemblies, creating working groups and garnering prior knowledge of the UNCRC. The first stage of the process is becoming a Rights Committed School which we hope to achieve by the end of session 2017/18. In the coming months we will be engaging with parents on the subject and we would welcome your support in helping us to achieve this goal. For more information on the Rights Respecting School Award please contact Mrs Tait or see www.unicef.org.uk/rights-respecting-schools.

  8. School Uniform
We are always happy to receive donations of blazers, ties etc that are no longer needed. Any items of uniform no longer needed can be handed in to the School Office.

  9. Christmas Service
The Christmas Service will take place on Thursday 21 December at 11.00 am in St Mary’s Church. This service is always a joyful, well-attended occasion.

  10. Christmas Jumper Day
As you may be aware, Friday 15 December is National Christmas Jumper Day. At the request of the Pupil Council, we will permit pupils to wear Christmas Jumpers on this day, along with their school uniforms. We would like to stress that this is not compulsory, but a pupil’s own choice. We will also have a collection bucket in the Social Area at morning break to support a charity chosen by the pupils, however, once again, this is not compulsory, but a donation.

  11. PTA Christmas Raffle
The school was visited by an inspector for the Customer Service Excellence Award on Thursday 23 November. Many thanks to all staff and pupils who participated. The full report will be published on the School Website as soon as it is released. We hope to maintain the already high standard of award set last year

  12. Parent Council Update
