On a glorious morning 35 of Dalziel High Schools finest pupils and staff assembled to begin their journey to the peak of Ben Nevis.
The route took them around the west bank of Loch Lomond along some long and winding roads. Dalziel were the first school to arrive and quickly began their ascent. For the first two hours the sun shone and the sky was blue. The pace was great as they traversed up the mountain path.
But at 2400ft this changed. The sky became an ominous grey and in the distance it was clear that the rain was falling. Before long the rain had arrived and brought with it ice shards from the sky. Pupils were quick to add waterproof layers and continue the trek. The view from the top was worth it.
Then began the descent and the skies cleared once more. The pupils and staff made it safely down the mountain side with achy sore legs and bags of pride.
The pupils and staff made this trip on behalf of St Andrews Hospice and have raised thousands in the process. The final figures will be released as soon as all the sponsor money has been returned.
