The annual Dalziel RFC Schools festival was once again held at Dalziel Park.
Dalziel fielded a young S1 side formed almost exclusively of S1 pupils. They took part in the middle level tournament alongside Coatbridge, St Maurice’s and Stonelaw.
First up was Coatbridge a side Dalziel have played a couple of times already this session. In a very evenly contested match Dalziel eventually got the better of their opponents by virtue of 3 tries to 1 with Oscar Logan, Lleyton Kearney and Ellis Kelly scoring tries. Andrew Sneddon added a conversion.
Next up were close rivals St Maurice’s from Cumbernauld another side Dalziel have played this session. This was an even closer match with in the end just one score separating the teams, St Mo’s winning by a solitary score.
The 3rd match saw Dalziel pitted against newcomers Stonelaw. Although raw in rugby terms they possessed bulk and power and while in all their games their opponents played better structured rugby size is always a determining factor and so it proved against Dalziel. Kelly scored a try and Ethan King added a conversion but Stonelaw powered over for 3 scores to take the middle event trophy.
Many thanks to Willie Davidson of Bellshill for his organisation along with the members of Dalziel RFC who supported the event via officiating and organisational roles.
