As part of the on-going North Lanarkshire Twinning with Tuscany, now in its 16th year, groups of senior pupils from Clyde Valley High School, Our Lady's High School and Dalziel High School who were hosts to students from our partner schools in Pescia in September 2017.
They returned to visit their Italian twins on the 5th February 2018 for a week of cultural, language and 'friendship' immersion. This is a unique opportunity for our pupils to experience a different lifestyle, visit an Italian school and spend time with young Italians and their families.
During the week of events the pupils visited some of the famous cities in the region - the walled city of Lucca, Pisa with its Leaning Tower and one of the oldest universities in Europe , Montecatini a well- known Spa town and of course Florence with a historical architectural wonder round every corner! One of the highlights was a day spent in Viarreggio, where at this time of year the second oldest Carneval in Italy is staged.
This was a completely new experience for the group, made all the more pleasant due to the setting of the city on the coast with the snow covered Tuscan hills as its backdrop. Over the duration of this twinning, long-lasting friendships have been made and visits to one another's fmailies continue long after the actual visit as Dalzielians.
