Visit to Dalziel by John Swinney - Deputy First Minister

Deputy First Minister of Scotland and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, John Swinney, visited Dalziel High School Motherwell today to talk with pupils and staff about the award winning and sector leading Developing the Young Workforce Programme and Education/Industry Partnership.

Mr Swinney heard of the exciting opportunities offered via Education / Industry Partnerships between Dalziel High School and Worley Parsons and Morgan Stanley. Through work experience programmes, CV preparation, support of skill development activities and highlighting the variety of pathways academic and vocational that help young people into the world of work.

One of the pupils sharing his experience of partnership working was Callum Sergeant (S3 pupil). Callum reported “It was empowering to have the ability to share with Mr Swinney the numerous skill based activities and Industry partnership working which is offered at Dalziel High School as part of the school environment. I have certainly benefited from these opportunities and I am determined to shape my career in the world of engineering”.

Headteacher, Mr Robert Birch said “It was wonderful for our pupils to meet Mr Swinney and showcase the outstanding work going on across the school.”
