Dalziel High in conjunction with Strathclyde Park Rowing Club have produced a number of rowing enthusiasts and the latest success comes in the shape of Olivia McPherson.
As part of an U18 quad, Olivia competed at the recent Scottish Championships where her teams’ performance ensured they qualified for the recent Henley Regatta, one of the biggest international rowing events on the calendar.
Races were videoed and the girls were in some top class company, thoroughly enjoying watching the efforts of those senior rowers in their own events. Travelling down on Thursday she spent time after arrival and on Friday practising for Saturday’s competition.
Entered in to the Diamond Jubilee Challenge Cup the girls’ event is run via a time trial and the SRC unit managed a very creditable performance to qualify in 16th place from 34 starters. This made sure they were involved a head-to-head race against an Australian crew. This squad were an older, heavier and more experienced group and were well ahead of the SRC quad over the 2,000m course. A cracking experience for Olivia however and well done to her and her team.
